THE ceasefire-in-place and Armistice Agreement of 1953 ended three years of fighting in the Korean peninsula. Why not try a similar formula to put a stop to the war in Ukraine?

The ceasefire to the Korean War was possible because by 1953 the combat lines corresponded roughly with the demarcation line when the conflict started in 1950. It would not have been feasible when the United Nations Command was cornered in the Pusan Perimeter in 1950, or when General MacArthur's forces were on the Yalu River in 1951. One side would have gained enormously if a ceasefire was proposed in either of these scenarios. In the event a ceasefire happens in Ukraine now, the demarcation lines will roughly correspond with those existing in February 2022 when Putin launched his 'special military operation.'
