SURIGAO del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers on Tuesday prodded his colleagues to pass a law establishing a "super body" to safeguard the public from the risks and dangers posed by artificial intelligence (AI).

The chairman of the dangerous drugs committee of the House of Representatives based his appeal on the statement of Geoffrey Hinton, dubbed the "godfather of AI," that the new technology he helped build posed a threat to human civilization.
