SOMETHING historic happened in the chess world that went mostly unreported in the Philippines.

Ding Liren from China won a thrilling victory against Russia's Ian Nepomniachtchi, after a 24-day, 18-game marathon. China now holds the world title in chess for both men and women (Ding and Ju Wenjun).
