UN sends envoy to Sudan on crisis fears

KHARTOUM: The United Nations' top humanitarian official is heading to Sudan due to the 'rapidly deteriorating humanitarian crisis' in the conflict-racked country, the world organization's chief said on Sunday.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' announcement came shortly after warring Sudanese forces announced the extension of a truce they have largely violated, as warplanes roared overhead and fighting continued in the capital Khartoum.
