DEPARTMENT of Tourism (DoT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco has underscored the importance of balancing the protection of lives and sustenance of livelihood of the communities affected by the recent oil spill in Oriental Mindoro.
While Frasco emphasized the continued viability of Puerto Galera as a tourist destination with no direct link to the oil spill which affected a portion of territorial waters of Oriental Mindoro as a result of the sunken tanker MT Princess Empress February this year, she said should this be closed to tourism amid existing concerns hounding it, this will gravely affect the communities and tourism stakeholders in the area.
