THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Wednesday revealed that it will likely issue an El Niño alert in May following an 80 percent probability that it would occur.

Analiza Solis, Pagasa's Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section chief, said the probability of an El Niño occurrence has increased from 55 percent to 80 percent from June to September.
