I FIRST met the lawyer Leila de Lima when I was chosen as one of the "young political leaders" who was given a free pass to attend a leadership seminar by the Ateneo School of Government. The seminar was held in cool Antipolo, and there I met some people who would end up as congressmen and governors of the land.
De Lima was one of our speakers, and she talked about election laws. She was one of the best in the field, along with election lawyers Romulo Macalintal and Sixto Brillantes. After the talk, I asked for her email address so I could consult her about the Ladlad party-list. She gave it to me, and said she would give us legal advice for free. We were both from Bicol, and we spoke in the native tongue.
