THE peso and the stock market ended a run of declines on Friday with investors said to have been cheered by reports that monetary authorities could finally pause from hiking interest rates.

The currency strengthened by 5 centavos to close at P55.21 against the dollar, while the benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index gained 33.04 points, or 0.51 percent, to end the day at 6,481.91.
