ALTHOUGH inactive for 10 months and coming off the injured list (broken left hand), Murodjon Akhmadaliev of Uzbekistan remained the heavy favorite going into his defense of the unified WBA and IBF junior featherweight (122 pounds) titles against Filipino challenger Marlon "Nightmare" Tapales.
Tapales was a former world champion, having won the WBO bantamweight (118 pounds) crown in July 2016. However, the way he lost the title and his subsequent performances led many to dismiss Tapales as a one trick pony.
