BOB Woodward, a renowned chronicler of American presidents, is always a great read. But it was a lecture he gave where he told a story about an American general that caught my attention. He shared an anecdote about the late chief of staff of the US Army, Gen. Raymond Odierno, who served under then President Barack Obama.

In a gathering of newly minted one-star generals, he asked them the question, 'What is the job of the US Army?'
