THE International Criminal Court's (ICC) issuance of an arrest order against Vladimir Putin for war crimes, and its demand to investigate former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte for his anti-drug war, have placed Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. (BBM) on the same side as the Russian strongman as far as the ICC is concerned. The court wants Putin arrested for the illegal deportation of children from Ukraine to Russia; and it wants Duterte investigated, over BBM's strong opposition, for certain killings in his anti-drug war.

Putin is not likely to surrender to the ICC jurisdiction, and BBM has declared he will not allow a foreign court to interfere in the Philippines' sovereign control of its own criminal justice system. For obvious reasons, there will be pressure from various parties in the West to have Putin arrested and Duterte investigated for their alleged offenses. An arrest is not the same as an investigation, but the external parties' interest in both could be the same.
