Tokyo stocks down 0.88% on recession fears

TOKYO: Tokyo stocks opened lower on Thursday following a mixed Wall Street close as investors fearful of recession await key US jobs data due later this week.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index was down 0.88 percent, or 244.68 points, at 27,568.58 in early trade, while the broader Topix index lost 0.91 percent, or 18.10 points, to 1,965.74.
