CHRIST dying for three days and three nights is a fulfillment of prophecies foretold. More importantly, Jesus Himself did foretell his death and resurrection, period.
In Matthew 12:40, Jesus said, "Just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." This means that if Christ resurrected on that fateful Sunday morning, He should have been in the grave for three days and three nights already. Thus, putting in question our usual celebration day of Good Friday which is one, two, or three days apart from resurrection Sunday, depending on how one would base his counting formula.
