THE decision of Japanese superstar Naoya "The Monster" Inoue to move up to the junior featherweight (122 pounds) division and relinquish all four of his bantamweight titles (WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO) opened up several opportunities for Filipino contenders in the 118-pound division.

Former three-time world bantamweight champ Nonito Donaire Jr., who has risen to the No. 1 spot in the WBC's bantamweight rankings, was a sure bet for another title shot at the get go. Despite getting bamboozled by Inoue last June, Donaire remains in good graces with the WBC.
