THE local government led by Mayor Luis Ferrer 4th urged residents, pet lovers, and pet owners of the 33 barangay (villages) of General Trias City to be responsible for a rabies-free locality. In Tagaytay City, in celebration of Rabies Awareness Month this March, the Tagaytay Rabies Council held a meeting led by Mayor Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino and the local government officials regarding the strengthening and extension of the City's Rabies Control and Prevention Program. In collaboration with the City Agriculture Office, Department of Health Region 4-A, Provincial Health Office, and the LGU partner veterinary clinics and pet grooming centers discussed the programs that will be implemented in the next few days to promote responsible pet ownership and reduce animal bite cases in the city. There were also rabies awareness lectures in barangay, schools, and business establishments through the Tagaytay Tourism Council. Everyone was also notified to register their pets in their respective villages and look out for barangay programs such as free anti-rabies vaccine from the City Agriculture Office. 'We are happily announcing that we have had zero rabies cases here in Tagaytay for almost 10 years already, and make sure that your respective pets have proper shelter and food and that all of them are full of joy,' City Health Officer Dr. Liza Capuspus said in an interview with The Manila Times. In Imus City, the local government and City Veterinary Services Office also celebrated rabies awareness month.
