BAGUIO CITY: Mayor Benjamin Magalong signed City Council Resolution 142, Series of 2023, declaring March 27 to April 1 this year as the 'Wellness and Longevity Week' in the Summer Capital with the theme 'Live Healthier, Live Happier, Live Longer,' and aims to raise awareness on the legitimacy and effectiveness of herbal medicines and traditional practices that promote wellness and longevity. The approved measure is in line with Republic Act 8423 or the 'Traditional and Alternative Medicine Act of 1997' that aims to promote and advocate the use of traditional, alternative, preventive, and curative health care modalities that have been proven safe, effective, cost-effective and consistent with government standards on medical practice. The weeklong event is also in consonance with the state policy 'to improve the quality and delivery of health care services to the Filipino people through the development of traditional and alternative health care and its integration into the national health care delivery system.' The summit and expo, organized by the Ikigai Blue Zone Wellness and Longevity Movement, will be held at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center starting March 27 with a pre-summit Wellness Walk from the Panagbenga Park and ending at Baguio City Hall in time for the flag-raising rites. Danilo Quinto, a member of the movement, said other activities like jump rope tutorials and competitions, tai chi demonstrations, phototherapy, and amateur photography will be conducted.
