OVERSEAS Filipino worker (OFW) remittances started the year strong with a 3.5-percent year-on-year increase to $3.07 billion in January, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reported on Wednesday.
The result — up from $2.97 billion a year earlier — was attributed to higher remittances from land-based workers with contracts of a year or more and sea- and land-based OFWs with contracts of less than a year.
