UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas (UST) guns for its second straight victory when it faces Ateneo de Manila University today, March 15, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 women's volleyball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan.
The Golden Tigresses take on the Lady Eagles at 3 p.m.
Bouncing back from its loss to Adamson, UST blasted University of the Philippines 25-17, 25-23, 25-20 last Saturday to improve its win-loss record to 3-2.
The Golden Tigresses are expected to lean on that winning momentum when they face the Lady Eagles who have been struggling this season.
While UST is hard at work when it comes to scouting its next opponents, Golden Tigresses head coach Kungfu Reyes shared that they are more focused on honing their team chemistry and sharpening their game.
'We have to sharpen our game. No matter how bad we study our opponents, if our level of play dips then we'll have a big problem. Right now, we're focusing on sharpening our game to 85 to 90 percent and we'll allocate the remaining 10 for our unforced errors,' said Reyes.
'But as much as we can raise our game and limit our errors, the better. It's everybody's game right now. The level of competition improved. Every player is preparing so well.'
UST will continue to lean on Eya Laure, Imee Hernandez, and Milena Alessandrini who have been playing well this season.
On the other hand, the free falling Lady Eagles aim to put an end to their three-game losing streak. The latest of that dry spell was an 18-25, 23-25, 19-25 setback to Adamson University last Sunday.
Faith Nisperos is expected to lead the charge for the sixth-running Ateneo team once again.
In the other women's volleyball game for today, the University of the East Lady Red Warriors (0-5) face the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws (2-3) at 11 a.m.
