MORONG, Bataan: A group of bikers dedicated their Sunday, March 12 bike run to oppose the construction and now to any planned rehabilitation and opening of the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP). Derek Cabe of the Nuclear Free Bataan Movement (NFBM) said the bikeathon was held in commemoration of the 12th anniversary of the Dai-ichi Nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan which happened on March 11, 2011. Bikers and environmentalists started the cycling event at the BNPP gate to Barangay Poblacion in Morong. 'Learn from the lessons of Fukushima, dismantle BNPP!' placards read. 'The event is to raise awareness on the harm and dangers of nuclear energy by highlighting the dreadful experiences of community folks in Fukushima, Japan. 'In this context, the BNPP should never be an option therefore, instead, renewable energy is the safest alternative to nuclear energy,' Cabe said. He said the people of Bataan and NFBM will continuously oppose the BNPP rehabilitation.
