Go to elected officials: Uplift lives of Filipinos

SEN. Christopher Lawrence 'Bong' Go urged public servants to work together to uplift the lives of Filipinos.

The senator made the appeal on Friday during the Philippine Councilors League National Convention.

'It is important for us to remember that all elected officials, either in national or local [level], has one sole goal: to serve the people,' Go said in a speech in Filipino. 'Even if there are some slight differences in our jobs, we have one goal: to uplift the life of every Filipino.'

'You are superstars in your own right. Halal po kayo ng taumbayan (You are elected by the people),' he added.

The senator said that in the 19th Congress, he filed measures that will benefit local leaders and workers, including Senate Bill 197 or the 'Magna Carta for Barangay,' and SB 427 which seeks to mandate the provision of allowances and incentives to barangay health workers.

He also filed SB 194 or the proposed 'E-governance Act' to strengthen data sharing among government agencies and digitalize traditional modes of workflows for a more efficient and transparent bureaucracy.

The senator pledged to work to ensure that Filipinos, particularly the poor, get the necessary support they need from the government.

Go noted that he filed various 'people-centered' measures such as Republic Act 11463, or the 'Malasakit Centers Act of 2019.'

'The Malasakit Center, which serves as a one-stop shop for medical assistance programs, has been instrumental in helping millions of Filipinos with its 156 operational centers nationwide,' he said.

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography also stressed the need to build a more disaster resilient nation. He filed SB 118 which aims to establish the Department of Disaster resilience, SB 1181 or the new 'Philippine Building Act,' and SB 193 which aims to establish mandatory evacuation centers in every locality.
