A NEW translation of the Bible's New Testament will be made available to residents in the Cuyo Islands in Palawan.
In a Facebook statement made by the Philippine Bible Society (PBS) on Friday, the Matinlong Barita Biblia: Bagong Tipan, is written in the Cuyonon language and coincides with the 400th anniversary of the first reading of Scriptures in Palawan by Spanish missionary Ezekiel Moreno.
The Bible Society later said this translation will give a fresh perspective on the Bible for the Cuyonon language speakers and that this was a result of years of research.
'Matinlong Barita Biblia: Bagong Tipan provides a fresh perspective on the timeless words of the Bible by capturing the Cuyonon of modern-day speakers, thus making it easier for the people to connect with the teachings of the Scriptures,' the PBS stated.
'While the message of the Bible is unchanging and always relevant, language evolves. This translation was made in view of this fact and with the goal of retaining the accuracy and integrity of the original language, while updating the use and nuances of the language to make it more understandable for contemporary readers, yet still appropriate for liturgical use,' they added.
'The translation was the result of years of research, collaboration, and dedication by a team of scholars, linguists, experts, and committed native speakers who worked to create a text faithful to the original language and published in the format that people can afford,' the Bible group further explained.
The PBS said they are proud to offer this translation to readers in the Cuyonon language, especially to church leaders, religious scholars, academic scholars, and lay people, that these will 'strengthen their understanding' in reading the Bible and further appreciate their own language. A Catholic version is also available for this edition. Further details on this translation can be found on the PBS website.
