TEHRAN: Iran announced on Tuesday that it had made the first arrests in a spate of mysterious poisonings of schoolgirls that have affected more than 5,000 students since late November.
This came a day after Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had called for the perpetrators of the "unforgivable crime" to be tracked down "without mercy" as public anger grew.
