LA PAZ, Tarlac: True to its ideal of providing assistance for the improvement of education, the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) turned over multimedia teaching aids to the municipal government of La Paz for distribution to public schools.
The items, amounting to P750,000, was funded under the Grants-in-Aid program of the department in support of the town's thrust to provide quality education for students and heighten the school children's interest in science and technology.
DoST Provincial Director Karen Dañez cited the collaborative effort between the agency, the Department of Education, Philippine Information Agency, Tarlac State University and provincial and municipal governments.
The project is expected to level up the science appreciation among students that could lead to more DoST scholars from La Paz.
'We are one with the Department of Education's mission of protecting and promoting the right of every Filipino to quality and equitable education. We hope that through this intervention, we can spark students' interest in science and technology and hopefully increase the number of DoST scholars in the municipality,' she said.
School-beneficiaries in the project include Dumarais Elementary School, Engracio M. Castaneda Central Elementary School, Guevara National High School, and Comillas National High School.
The provision of multimedia teaching aids was conceptualized through Project Municipal Innovation Through Science & Technology (Project MIST). They were received by Mayor Venus Jordan who thanked its partners for realizing the project in his area.
Project MIST aims to bring substantial innovations closer to the people with the active involvement of local government units.
