SAMAL, Bataan: A speeding motorcycle rider tried to evade a police checkpoint here at dawn on Saturday, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and slide on the road.
When policemen came to the rider's rescue, they found in his possession more or less 50 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P340,000.
Pat. Niel Vincent Pangisban of the Samal Municipal Police Station identified the suspect as a 46-year-old male from Barangay Sto. Niño in Dinalupihan, Bataan who was rushed to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.
The patrolman said a team from the Samal police station was conducting an anti-criminality checkpoint at 3 a.m. in Barangay San Roque when the incident took place.
'In trying to evade the checkpoint, the rider lost control of his motorcycle. When the police asked for his driver's license, they saw the shabu inside his bag,' Pangisban said in Filipino.
He said the rider was arrested and will face charges.
Panganiban said Maj. Jimmy Albert Decin, Samal police chief, directed the filing of a case for violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9165, or the 'Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act,' against the suspect.
