US diplomat Cindy McCain to lead UN food agency

Rome, Italy: US diplomat Cindy McCain has been appointed new executive director of the World Food Program (WFP), the Rome-based UN agency said Thursday (Friday in Manila).

McCain, 68, who will replace David Beasley in April, tweeted that she was 'deeply honored' to take over at the helm of an organisation which has been getting emergency aid to people for nearly six decades.
