China's population dropped by 850,000 in 2022

CHINA'S population fell by more than 800,000 last year, with the national population growth rate being -0.6 per thousand, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Tuesday. But demographers downplayed the negative mood over the declining number, saying it was time to improve the quality of the population to make up for the fewer births.
