DHL bullish on growth; cites upbeat PH outlook

DHL Express on is optimistic of a business boom this year as the Philippine economy continues to recover.

'We're seeing that the gross domestic product (GDP) growth of the Philippines will be very positive as forecast by different agencies including the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and World Bank,' DHL Express Philippines commercial head Eric Queppet said.

'We're banking on that bullish forecast to ride on the growth of the Philippines, which will particularly come from the SME (small and medium enterprise) market, the tech sector and the automotive sector which in turn will also boost our logistics business forward as well because of deliveries,' he added.

'So, we are very positive on the forecast that the government is putting for GDP [growth] this year.'

E-commerce is expected to continue driving growth given thriving online shopping platforms.

'E-commerce continues to be our top source of growth,' Queppet said.

'What we are seeing is this is a sector that has still continued [growing] despite the opening [of the economy], and it is actually spurring growth to our business, and including the deliveries,' he added.

'In addition to e-commerce, the tech industry, automotive, retail sectors, and most especially the retail market and OFW (overseas Filipino worker) remittances have also been major drivers for our business as well.'

DHL Philippines supply chain was said to be 'back to normal' and expected to soon return to pre-pandemic levels.

'Overall, the situation on our supply chain is that everything is back to normal now compared to before the pandemic began so it is almost 100 percent back now,' Queppet said.
