Independent lenders and government programs from Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and SEC have stepped in to lessen this financing gap. According to DTI data from 2021, 89 percent of MSMEs are micro enterprises and 10 percent are small enterprises. Medium enterprises comprise only 0.49 percent, which may explain why they don't get as much financing focus.
Medium enterprises are classified as companies with 100 to 199 employees, and P15 million to P100 million in assets. While many SMEs need funding to cover operating expenses and cash flow gaps, medium enterprises typically need funding for business expansion and growth.
