PGen. Rodolfo Azurin, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, says the recent attacks on local officials could be linked to the Barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (youth) elections on Oct. 30, 2023 although Special Investigation Task Groups are looking into other angles. Azurin issued the statement to media on the side of the Manila Police District's anniversary on Tuesday, February 21. Vice Mayor Rommel Alameda of Aparri, Cagayan, in Nueva Vizcaya was killed last February 19. Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. was ambushed on February 17 but survived.
