DepEd amends 'Panatang Makabayan' term for praying

THE Department of Education (DepEd) has amended the term 'nagdarasal' in the 'Panatang Makabayan' to 'nananalangin' to make the patriotic oath more inclusive of all faiths and beliefs.

On Valentine's Day, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte issued DepEd Order 004, s. 2023 amending the term in 'Panatang Makabayan' or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines created under Republic Act (RA) 8491, also known as 'An Act Making Flag Ceremony Compulsory in All Educational Institutions.'
