DAVAO CITY: The City Sports and Development Division here will train 50 out-of-school youth (OSY) from select barangay (villages) and search for potential athletes among them. Officer in Charge Mikey Aportadera, Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office, said under the Aktibo Dabawenyo grassroots program, select OSY are given a chance to be trained in athletics, skateboarding, football, dance sport, sepak takraw, swimming, chess, basketball and arnis. 'We invited the barangay and we encouraged their OSY that this is for free. Our coaches and trainers who have already been given medals and recognitions will conduct the training,' Aportadera also said in a recent media briefing. He added that for swimming, participants from the Badjao community at Km. 11 Sasa are specially selected. Aktibo Dabawenyo, a health and wellness program of the city, was previously aired as a segment of the Byaheng DO30 weekly news program. The program resumed after the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions on sports.
