CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City: Five members of the Philippine Army here were killed and one was seriously wounded during a shooting at the camp on Saturday. The fifth fatality was the suspected gunman who was killed by responding police and soldiers. The four dead were identified as Sgt. Rogelio Rojo, Pfc. Prince Kevin Balaba, Cpl. Bernard Rodrigo, Pvt. Joseph Tamayo and Pvt. Johmar Villabito, the suspect. Seriously wounded was police SSg. Braulio Macalos Jr. Col. Aaron Mandia, chief of the Cagayan de Oro City Police, said that initial investigation showed that the suspect shot the victims using an M16 rifle as they were sleeping in their barracks without any apparent and justifiable reason. He said that Pvt. Mark Anthony Balaquit Aguined aided by Pfc. Josiah Estrada neutralized the suspect. Mandia said the wounded was brought to the Army station hospital inside the camp while an investigation is ongoing.
