CHOCO Mucho middle blocker Maddie Madayag just put up her best game since incurring an ACL injury in the 2021 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
Madayag put up 11 points on nine attacks, one block, and one service to lead the Flying Titans to a PVL 2023 All-Filipino Conference 25-15, 25-20, 25-20 win over Akari on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Madayag expressed her gratitude to Choco Mucho new coach Dante Alinsunurin for her strong performance.
'I'm very happy that coach Dante gave me an opportunity for my redemption because my recovery took so long. It was so painful when I fell (incurred the ACL injury). I'm just happy that I was able to redeem myself in this game but of course we won't stop in this game,' said Madayag.
Madayag made her return in the 2022 Reinforced Conference but she played sparingly for Choco Mucho, which finished seventh in the tournament.
It was only on Saturday when Madayag was finally looking like her old self as she anchored the Flying Titans defense all the while giving the team an added weapon on the offensive end.
Madayag, who will turn 25 years old on February 7, earned Player of the Game (POG) honors for her strong performance.
'I wasn't thinking about winning POG. I will do whatever way that I can contribute to the team whether that's blocking, being a leader to the team. Being a POG is just a bonus. That just means that the system that coach Dante is trying to implement is working,' said Madayag.
'I feel that we have so much more to learn and we have more things to apply for ourselves. I think me and the team are not 100 percent yet.'
