BRENT International School ace tanker Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh made her presence felt after claiming the country's first gold medal in the Asia Pacific Activities Conference (APAC) Swimming Championships being held at the Seoul Foreign School in Seoul, South Korea.
Known as the water beast in the swimming community, the 16-year-old Mojdeh displayed her fiery form in topping the girls' 200 m individual medley.
She registered two minutes and 22.05 seconds — a few seconds better than second placer Annika Chu of Hong Kong International School (HKIS), who submitted 2:24.03.
Another HKIS bet Angelina Ching Nga So secured the bronze with a time of 1:28.94.
'It's my first time competing in APAC, and I am happy that I improved again my times. I am thankful to see familiar faces here. Even in this cold weather the APAC vibe is full of warmth,' said Mojdeh, a semifinalist in the prestigious 2022 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships held in Lima, Peru.
Moments later, Mojdeh pocketed her second medal — a bronze — this time in the girls' 100 m freestyle event.
The Filipino Iranian tanker registered one minute and 0.90 second with HKIS tankers Audrey Sandeen (59.84) and Claire Robertson (1:00.87) claiming the top two spots.
'I get to enjoy swimming here in Korea. They have some fast swimmers, and it's nice to compete with them. Thanks to Brent Aqualions Swim Team and coach Monching, coach Cathy, coach Len and my teammates. I had a fun time here. I look forward to next year,' Mojdeh added.
Mojdeh wrapped up the day with another bronze after steering the Brent quartet to a podium finish in the girls' 200 m medley relay.
She connived with Kirsten Tan, Jira Hedeager and Natalia Javier in earning the third-place honors in the event following their 2:25.63 showing.
Host team Seoul Foreign School copped the gold in 2:22.49, while United Nations International School of Hanoi took home the silver in 2:23.03.
'We have been looking forward to this since she started studying at Brent. It has been canceled a lot of times during the pandemic, but we are thankful that she now has the opportunity to swim here,' said Swim League Philippines chairman Joan Mojdeh.
'We are grateful to Brent International School for this opportunity. To coach Ramon Reloj and coach Cathy Ong, and the entire BISM for organizing this event,' she said.
In the boys' division, fellow Brent International School standouts Ethan Waskiewicz and Ethan Hodges secured medals in their respective events.
Waskiewicz placed second in 100 m backstroke (1:07.44) while Hodges earned a bronze in 200 m freestyle (2:08.97).
