Destiny's child

From child actor to activist, Ronald Daguio's life destiny has taken him to banking, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods and now, IT.

BELIEVE it or not, but Ronald Daguio, business unit head of Ardent Networks Inc., dauntlessly wanted to become the president of the Philippines when he was a child.

The dream has not disappeared, though. Up to this day, Daguio simply realized that he needs to work hard to achieve his stellar ambition.

And work hard Daguio does.

His Malacañang dream, however, got sidetracked when he joined showbiz.

At 5 years old, Daguio found himself acting on the big screen.

As a child actor in the league of Roderick Paulate and Snooky, he had the chance to be handled by such first-rate directors as the late Eddie Rodriguez in 'Binili Ko ang Aking Asawa' (1971) and 'Anak sa Labas' (1971), as well as National Artist Ishmael Bernal in 'Girlfriend' (1980), with the late Cherie Gil and Mat Ranillo 3rd and Mel Chionglo in 'Playgirl' (1981).

Daguio, however, was best remembered as being cast in the popular TV kiddie gag show, 'Kaluskos Musmos,' which was directed by Johnny Manahan.

It was in the said program where other successful showbiz stars had their humble beginnings.

Daguio joined the list that included Herbert Bautista and Maricel Soriano. He went on to stay until the program was reformatted to 'Kuskos Balungos.'

It was Daguio's mom who prodded him to go into showbiz. He is the eldest child, so his mom simply doted on him.

'I can act well,' Daguio proudly beamed. 'It was an honor to be working with the likes of Ishmael Bernal, my director. But honestly, I didn't want to be in front of the cameras.'

By the time he went to high school, Daguio turned his back on acting.

'I missed on my grade school a lot,' he said. 'Most of my weekends were spent taping or shooting. I loved playing sports, so I missed out on my childhood years.'

In high school, Daguio became active in co-curricular activities and events at San Beda College.

'I'm a higher batch than Herbert, but his mom and my mom are best friends. If there were problems in school then, Herbert's mom would call me.'
