Kiribati confirms return to strategic Pacific bloc

SUVA: Kiribati confirmed on Monday that it would rejoin the Pacific Islands Forum, returning to the strategic bloc of nations as they grapple with China's push for regional influence.

The central Pacific country of some 120,000 people quit the forum last July, saying the concerns of Micronesian members were being ignored.
