In three years' time, action star-cum-Senator Lito Lapid says he plans to retire from public service. Touching base with showbiz media the week that was, prime time TV's famous 'Pinuno' from FPJ's 'Ang Probinsyano' revealed he would be 70 years old by then and clocking a total of 27 years in politics. Before Lapid was repeatedly voted into the upper chamber of congress, beginning 2004, he was vice governor and governor of his beloved province Pampanga.'Ise-celebrate natin yan,' he promised when the time comes. Where and how he has yet to plan. What he is a hundred percent certain of is that he will never run for any government position in 2026.'Wala na, wala na akong [plano]. Kasi 70 years old na ako pagkatapos nito. Kung ma-re-elect ako, matatapos ako, 76 years old na di'ba? Kaya wala na akong [inaambisyon] sa sarili ko. Basta retired na ako n'un, OK na ako.'What Lapid assures his supporters of is that he will resolutely push for the passage and enactment of Senate Bill No. 36 or 'An Act Establishing a Framework for Film and Television Tourism in the Philippines, Creating an Inter-Agency Committee on Film and Television Tourism and for Other Purposes.''Hindi lang yan para sa industry ng show business kundi sa pag-unlad din ng buong bayan,' the senator noted, citing entertainment as a major economic driver in Korea and other parts of the world.Meanwhile, his fans on the small and silver screens can hope for more to come from the action star, Lito Lapid. Strong and healthy as ever, the horse-riding movie star even boasted he has no need for maintenance medicine yet, like his peers.'Kasi ensayado at hindi ako nagpapabaya. Lagi akong ready at baka bigla akong isama sa pelikula,' he related, adding, 'Kamukha niyan, nakadalawang pelikula na akong natapos. Tapos bigla akong kinuha dito sa 'Batang Quiapo.' At least naka-kondisyon pa rin ang katawan ko.''Apag' and 'Lumang Bakal' are the two movies Lapid was referring to, both by the internationally awarded director Brillante Mendoza; while 'Batang Quiapo' is Coco Martin's upcoming teleserye from ABS-CBN, in place of the recently concluded 'FPJ's Ang Probinsyano,' where the senator appeared as Pinuno. Most of his 2023 already set, Lapid will devote weekends and Senate recesses to taping Batang Quiapo, and partly to shooting 'Buy Bust 2,' the sequel to Anne Curtis' action blockbuster, which begins in March.Outside his passion for serving country and pursuing his art, Lapid finally says life is all about family to him now. And so, as he promises to make the most of bettering the lives of Filipinos in his last three years in the Senate, Lapid also looks forward to spending even more time with his growing family.'Lolo na rin ako ngayon at masaya siya,' he ended.
