SOME companies today continue to be managed using the old concepts of command and control, hierarchical organizations and job descriptions. Ironically, we are now operating in a new economy where the incidence of free-lancers, part-timers, contingent workers and gig workers are rising to levels never heard before. I know of some Filipino professionals who do gigs, "side hustles" or "sideline work" to complement their day jobs here. In the US, I have a friend whose techie son has three part-time jobs — and a car, and two Harley Davidson big bikes.
