HONG KONG: Asian and European markets ended mixed on Tuesday as growing optimism over China's economic reopening was offset by warnings that United States interest rates would continue to rise and stay elevated for some time.

After a torrid 2022, equities have enjoyed a broadly strong start to the new year, thanks largely to Beijing's decision to throw off the shackles of its strict zero-Covid policy, which battered the world's second-largest economy.
