"WHETHER you are a business leader or political leader, you need people around you who are prepared to tell the truth." Most of the time, a king wants only good news. He dislikes people who can say to the king that he has no clothes. But the truth is the only way to be able to discern who should be appointed, promoted and removed as well as what is wrong with how the whole team is moving. When leaders end up wanting to hear only good news, we are just focused on the mood and not behavioral change as several behavioral and psychology studies have shown.
It would have been a good start for 2023 with the first visit of BBM to China — the first outside of Asean, first for the year and first leader to be welcomed by China. The 48-hour state visit resulted in 14 bilateral agreements signed and a total of $22.8 billion investment pledges, including $13.76 billion for renewable energy, $7.32 billion for electric vehicles and mineral processing, and $1.72 billion for agriculture. Apart from economic and political pledges, an effort was made to narrow the trade gap that favors China and formulate a working formula on the West Philippine Sea.
