AT the start of the new year, Occidental Mindoro will experience longer brownouts after its power provider decided to reduce its supply to prolong its fuel stock until the National Power Corporation (NPC) pays the fuel subsidies on January 23.
Chief Calvin Luther Genotiva of the Occidental Mindoro Consolidated Power Corporation (OMCPC) told the Manila Times on Tuesday morning, that "as of now 7 megawatts lang ang pinapaandar para magkasya yung fuel namin until January 23, kasi yun yung promise ng NPC na magbabayad sila, for two months billing lang yun. Nakiusap na din kami sa fuel supplier, kasi hindi pa full payment pero at least makabayad kami ng two months ay okay na yun (as of now, we are only supplying 7MW so that there is enough fuel until January 23 because that is when NPC said it would pay. That is only for two months. We also appealed to the fuel supplier because we have not paid them fully but at least we can pay for two months so that should be okay)."
