Migrants, drugs on agenda as Biden heads to Mexico

Mexico City: US President Joe Biden will seek Mexico's help tackling illegal flows of migrants and drugs, particularly deadly opioids, during a visit beginning Sunday (Monday in Manila) for a North American leaders' summit.

Aiming to tame criticism over what he has called a 'broken' immigration system, Biden will stop off in Texas for his first trip to a border overwhelmed by record numbers of migrants and asylum-seekers.

Mexican security forces on Thursday captured a son of jailed drug kingpin Joaquin El Chapo Guzman, scoring a high-profile win in the fight against powerful cartels days before US President Joe Biden visits. Ovidio Guzman, who was arrested in the northwestern city of Culiacan, is accused of leading a faction of his father's notorious Sinaloa cartel, Defense Minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval told reporters.
