(UPDATE) THE retail prices of onions remained high despite the implementation of the P250 suggested retail price (SRP) on Dec. 30, 2022. An official of the Department of Agriculture (DA) warned that traders could face profiteering and manipulation charges.

In a radio interview, Agriculture Assistant Secretary and spokesman Kristine Evangelista said that the farm gate prices of the bulbs ranged between P190 and P200, but the middlemen sell the onions to the vendors at P500 per kilo.
