The first Japan-Philippines-United States Land Forces Chiefs Meeting was held at Camp Asaka in Japan on December 11.

The five top chiefs of the participating countries' ground forces who attended the meeting are Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) Chief of Staff Gen. Yoshida Yoshihide, US Army Pacific Commanding General GEN Charles Flynn, US Marine Corps Forces Commander LTG William Jurney, Philippine Army Commanding General LTG Romeo Brawner Jr., and Philippine Marine Corps Commandant MG Charlton Sean Gaerlan.
