MOL tests Starlink Satellite communication service

MITSUI O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) and Marlink will try to use Starlink Satellite Communication Service on MOL-operated vessels.

MOL President and CEO Takeshi Hashimoto signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Marlink AS (Marlink) President Tore Morten Olsen to start the trial use of the satellite communication service Starlink, offered by Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX).

Starlink’s constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) enables much lower latency and higher-capacity communications than traditional satellites and will be used on MOL operated vessels like this VLCC Kasuza. PHOTO FROM MOL WEBSITE
