TO say that Erica Marquez-Jacinto grew up in the Philippine shipping industry is an understatement.
Her grandfather, Ponciano Marquez, partnered with Japan's leading shipowners and built Virjen Shipping Corp. (VSC) in the late '60s. He was a product of Madrigal Shipping, one of the pioneers in domestic shipping and founder of the Philippine manning sector. This growing partnership was ultimately sealed by his son, Erickson Marquez, who expanded and strengthened VSC into an industry pillar as it is known today.
