Yet, it became important in our nation's history because from its abundant adobe quarries the stones that built Old Manila was made, the center of the Spanish Empire in the East. This empire consolidated the islands into one geographic colonial entity called Las Islas Filipinas. But when it was time to challenge this colonial system, Makati offered its sons and spaces to the national revolution that led to the birth of the nation.
