FORMER Agriculture secretary and Federation of Free Farmers (FFF) Board Chairman Leonardo Montemayor said that at least 10 to 15 percent of palay harvest, equivalent to 3 to 3.4 million metric tons of rice, are wasted annually in post-harvest operations.
"We can reach rice self-sufficiency if we are able to address the post-production losses. During harvest season, you can see palay at the roads. At least 10 to 15 percent of palay harvest is wasted due to this practice," Montemayor said in a radio interview.
