Last Thursday evening, I was browsing the YouTube channel when a video's caption stated in capital letters: "ALERTO ALL SENIORS! 60 YEARS OLD ABOVE! SENIOR CITIZEN DATA FORM TUTORIAL. KAILANGAN NIYO NG MAIPASA (You must pass it on/share)." This message was of great interest to me because I am a part of the graying population. A young woman's voice enthusiastically said she would guide the online respondent on how to fill out the data form from the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC). She added that starting in January 2023, the NCSC will handle all the assistance, benefits and programs for senior citizens that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) used to manage. I wonder though which among the programs that were initiated by the DSWD will be sustained by the newly created NCSC, and whether the latter has the capacity and human resources to implement these programs.
Because the NCSC will manage all programs related to Filipino senior citizens, it wants to have a new and accurate database. So, the young woman enjoined all senior citizens, 60 years and older, to fill out the form, "dahil hindi lang basic information ang kailangan, may mga portions sa form na kayo lang po ang makakasagot (because not only basic information is needed, but there are portions in the form that only you can answer)."
