THE THOUGHT JUNKIE

In the past month alone, we have witnessed two 'viral' incidents that unfortunately involved highly charged physical altercations — one involved young actresses and another, young athletes. For us outsiders, this was nothing more than the 'trending' topic of the week, one that everyone would have extremely strong opinions about before it fades away into obscurity, engulfed by another news cycle.

As outsiders, it's so much easier to comment, repost, and react because we have no responsibility to the people involved. We forget that beyond a 60 second clip are individuals who were raised in different environments, experienced trauma (whether it's trauma with a big T or a small t) and are going through seasons the public will never be privy to. Today's social media world has blurred the lines of entertainment and real life, everything is up for grabs simply because everyone has access to the internet.
